Flashback to a few years ago. The parameters for teams to make decisions regarding a project were based on three factors: time, scope, and cost. While planning to create new software, the three questions you would typically ask were: How long they would take to do it? How many features need to be built? How much would it cost?

Cut to the present day. Each of these factors has shifted to better suit an exponential thinking model, instead of following an outmoded linear thinking one. Speed is more valuable to us than time. Our teams ensure that products reach the customer fast, so we can get their insights and feedbacks.

Earlier, endless meetings used to be the norm to nail down the scope. Today, we ask developers not to worry about the scope, and instead focus on collecting valuable feedback, which they then implement with quality. Finally, in the past, we’d ask how much does it cost to build a certain feature. Now, we look at the value it is driving. Have sales increased? Is there a growth in revenue?

This results in teams that hit their maximum potential in terms of value, instead of everyone coming together to dilute value to the lowest common denominator. This kind of flexibility helps us ensure that what we are building is responsive to customer needs and is still of the highest caliber.

Vice President Product Management
Ram leads the Product Management capability for Publicis Sapient India. In this role, he manages a global team of Product Managers across industry verticals. Ram is also the Product Lead for ‘Commerce Intelligence’ and ‘Cognitive Marketing’. Most recently, Ram led the data-driven product personalization initiative for a global client to exponentially increase the number of digital customers by 25x and deliver significantly improved conversion metrics for the business.
