Job Description

Senior Manager, Application Architecture

As a Senior Manager, Application Architecture, you own the end-to-end architecture of complex digital products and platforms we build for our clients. You translate business strategy into resilient, scalable software architectures, set the technical direction for delivery squads, and act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders. This is a hands-on architecture leadership role at the centre of our product engineering and transformation work across Financial Services, Retail, Payments and Health.

Your Impact

  • Own the solution and application architecture for large, multi-workstream digital transformation programs, from discovery through to production and scale.
  • Design distributed, cloud-native systems using microservices, event-driven and API-first patterns, applying domain-driven design to break complex domains into well-bounded services.
  • Shape architectures for data and AI-enabled products, including agentic and personalisation use cases, real-time data flows, and low-latency serving patterns.
  • Partner with client CTOs, architects and product leaders to define target-state architecture, modernisation roadmaps and build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Lead legacy modernisation and re-platforming, decomposing monoliths and defining pragmatic migration paths that minimise disruption to the business.
  • Set and govern architecture standards, non-functional requirements and fitness functions across security, performance, resilience and cost.
  • Provide technical leadership to engineering squads, uplifting engineers through design reviews, pairing and mentorship.
  • Champion the responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools to lift delivery quality and developer productivity.
  • Support pre-sales and origination by shaping solutions, sizing effort and articulating technical value to prospective clients.

Skills & Experience

  • 12+ years in software engineering and architecture, with recent experience as a solution or application architect on large-scale digital platforms.
  • Deep expertise in designing distributed systems, microservices and event-driven architectures, and integration patterns including REST, GraphQL, gRPC and streaming.
  • Strong hands-on background in one or more modern stacks, for example Java, .NET, Node.js, Python or Go, and the ability to reason about trade-offs across them.
  • Practical experience architecting for a major cloud platform, AWS, GCP or Azure, and familiarity with cloud-native services for compute, data, messaging and identity.
  • Sound command of data architecture, including relational and NoSQL stores, event streaming, and patterns for analytics and AI or machine learning workloads.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, containerisation and infrastructure as code, sufficient to design for operability and to partner closely with platform teams.
  • Strong grasp of security-by-design, resilience, observability and performance engineering for high-volume, mission-critical systems.
  • Consulting mindset with excellent communication and stakeholder management, able to influence both engineers and executives.

Set Yourself Apart With

  • Experience leading architecture on client-facing consulting or product engineering engagements.
  • Background in domain-driven design, event storming and team topologies for large delivery organisations.
  • Hands-on experience with AI and generative AI product patterns, including retrieval, orchestration and agentic workflows.
  • Relevant cloud or architecture certifications, for example AWS or Google Professional Cloud Architect, or TOGAF.
  • Exposure to regulated industries such as financial services, payments or health, and their compliance and data-residency considerations.

Additional Information

  • An inclusive workplace that promotes diversity and collaboration.
  • Access to ongoing learning and development opportunities.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
  • Flexibility to support work-life balance.
  • Generous paid leave and holidays.
  • Wellness program and employee assistance.
